This is the longest episode in the history of Blue Blocks! We hope you enjoy this conversation. Much of it is lighthearted, silly and full of laughs (first 20 minutes are the silly ice breakers). They also have serious discussions about innovative ideas for our neighborhood. We also learn about how Stuart came to California from Scotland and his whole backstory that led him to end up moving to Woodlake 7 years ago.
During this episode, Sheilah gets a nickname (Gotta Listen to find out!) and Co-Host Mike Hollis shares about a new side project that he and Sheilah may be taking on together (Gotta Listen to find out too!) These two interview a local resident and Photographer, Stuart Gow, who recently had a remarkable photography exhibit that highlighted North Sacramento called "I Wish You Would Love Me Again" at Neverboard Gallery on Del Paso Boulevard. The photographs were all stunning and conversation starters because they were beautiful images of the blight and neglect that can be found on the streets in our District Two. Listen as these 3 talk about how the visual imagery was a catalyst for bringing residents together to talk about important issues. Stuart shares about his photo book, the mural on Thrift Town, and his next show he intends to do for Photography Month in April 2025 in Sacramento.
This episode is a long one because the conversation between these 3 friends/neighbors went deep into the things they love about the Boulevard, ways to enhance it, optimistic ideas for new ways to use empty buildings, and commentary about what keeps them striving for more growth and development in this District. Sheilah is an idea factory!
They also talked a lot about food, chocolate, whiskey, dogs, spam, hallmark movies, the Walking Dead, nicknames, murals, swords, restoring cars, and events happening this weekend!

Having Thursday Night Trivia at King Cong Brewery on the Boulevard ever since April 2018 has helped the Brewery to thrive on Thursday Nights. It gained so much popularity that it eventually grew to Tuesdays AND Thursday nights! People come from all over the city to play Trivia here on the Blvd. Trivia is something that dozens of local residents look forward to as a fun community weekly gathering! So, our special guest today is the owner of Trivialogy, the Trivialogist in Chief, himself, Bill Silveira!

Mina Perez, the Vice Chair of the North Sacramento Chamber of Commerce
Mina and Sheilah talk about how the North Sac Chamber of Commerce can help our community of business owners in numerous ways. We find out that Mina has been a long time North Sacramento resident who promotes the Arts through her nonprofit Vida de Oro. She also shares about her ideas of new businesses that could do very well in this District as well. Most importantly, she tells us about the upcoming plans to celebrate the 100 year anniversary on November 2nd, 2024 and about the activities the Chamber of Commerce have planned for the event.

Today we talked to the owners of Lil’ Joe’s and Sammy’s Restaurant and learned about how they are teaming up to reopen Sammy’s. We learn a little about the history of North Sacramento and these two iconic restaurants that have been here since the 1940’s. Naz Begum has been working at Lil’ Joe’s with the owner John Fiero and finally is making her 20 year dream come true by opening Sammy’s as her own restaurant. John and Naz are collaborative & supportive of both restaurants on the Boulevard because there are plenty of people to fill both restaurants and help the Blvd thrive!
